    May 31, 2026  2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090, USA

Our Spring Historic Notables Walking Tour will be held on Sunday, May 31st.

This tour highlights the history and character of a number of individuals who lived in Westfield and helped shape the community over the years. While we acknowledge that everyone at Fairview Cemetery has a life story, this tour will highlight a few of them, located in conveniently walkable proximity. Attendance is limited to 30 individuals.

Registration will open for this event on Thursday, April 30th. All attendees must register in advance online at https://friendsoffairview1.org/notables_reg/.

The walking tour is estimated to take 90 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes, as the grounds are hilly and include unpaved areas. In case of rain, this event will be cancelled.

The tour will be led by Dr.Barbara Burton, who has worked professionally in the online information industry and at the Rutgers School of Communication and Information. She has servedon the WHS Board of Trustees, the Miller-Cory Board of Governors, has been amember of the Westfield Historic Preservation Commission, and was chair of theWestfield 300 Celebration, in addition to other professional, church, andcommunity positions. Barbara recentlycurated an in-depth exhibit at Reeve House on the life and career of VirginiaApgar—one of the individuals featured on the Historic Notables Tour—and is author of a bookabout Westfield entitled The Fates Were Favorably Inclined.
