Fall Tree Tour

Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090, USAFriends of Fairview is pleased to announce its annual fall foliage walking tour. October is a perfect time to take in the stunning autumn colors on display throughout the grounds. Attendance is limited to 40 individuals.

The tour is led by Dr. Tom Ombrello, Professor of Biology at Union College. Dr. Ombrello is an expert on all aspects of trees and is also able to share many anecdotal stories regarding history, geology, and local lore. His expertise has aided Fairview Cemetery in acquiring accreditation as a level ll arboretum, as well as in the cataloguing and selection of species on the grounds.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the grounds are hilly and include unpaved areas. In case of rain, this event will be cancelled.

Historic Tree Lecture

Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090, USAThe fall Historic Tree Lecture will highlight the Union County Historic Tree Grove located on the campus of Union College, Cranford.
The trees in this historic grove are the witness to important historical events in American history and remain an important legacy to the past. Approximately 75 historic trees grown from seeds and clonal cuttings are planted in the grove, spanning through history from George Washington to 9/11.
The lecturer and project manager of the historic grove is Dr. Tom Ombrello, Senior Professor of Biology at Union College. This lecture will explore how the trees were selected, grown, and incorporated into the campus of Union College, and will be accompanied by an illustrated presentation.

The lecture will be held at the Fairview Conference Center, located at 1100 East Broad Street, Westfield. No unregistered guests will be admitted.
