Frederick A. Kinch III

1901–1975

Fred Kinch was born in Westfield to a well-established family. While his father and grandfather were well-known in town as the primary physicians to its citizens, Fred opted not to go to medical school and instead graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. As a young man, he served as a technical advisor to the British and American troops while stationed in North Africa during World War II. He later moved to Summit and commuted to New York City, where he was an executive of the General Motors Company, and retired after 42 years. He was married to Elizabeth Ferguson Kinch and was a father of two children, a daughter and a son.
