Luther M. Whitaker
1851–1911
Luther Whitaker came to Westfield at age 17 where he would begin working in the real estate business. Through this he would make connections within the town and become quite well known. His real estate business did well as he diligently scoured for properties and used his connections to spread the world about his business. His status in the town allowed him to be very involved in politics, eventually coming to run the Westfield Republican Party alongside Charles Codding. Despite being deaf in one ear and hating giving speeches, he would help rouse support for candidates in less secure wards. Before his retirement he became the first postmaster in the town.
