William Gale
1832–1917
As a young man Gale attended Long Island College Hospital where he would study medicine. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the college in 1867. After graduating, he would serve as an assistant surgeon in the navy during the Civil War. After the end of the war he would come to Westfield to open up his own medical practice. Alongside Fred Kinch II he would be one of the main physicians for the town. He also opened a drugstore, becoming a cornerstone for the town and a key distributor of the Westfield Leader. Despite sharing the spotlight with Kinch, Gale was also the only dentist in the town and was well respected.
