Description: Lawson’s cypress is the tallest member of the cypress family, sometimes reaching to 200’ or more in its native habitat, although generally no more than about 60′ tall in cultivation. The branches are covered with sprigs of tiny, scale-like, bright green to blue-green leaves with silver marks beneath. The lumber is very desirable, but quite limited. The species was named for Charles Lawson, a Scottish nurseryman in the early 1800s who received seeds from the Pacific Northwest region of the US and first introduced it into cultivation.
