Saucer magnolias grow best in acidic, well-drained, organically rich loams, in full sun to part shade. They do well in moist soil, but don’t like it overly wet or overly dry, and should be planted in a protected location so that spring frosts do not damage flowers. Magnolia × soulangeana is a hybrid between M. denudata and M. liliiflora and is the most commonly grown deciduous magnolia. It is often grown in a shrubby form with multiple trunks.
