Description: Yellowwood, or American Yellowwood, is a medium-sized, deciduous tree with upright branching. It bears fragrant white flowers in spring, and the flat, bean-like seed pods mature in autumn. Leaves have a good yellow fall color. Young trees may not bloom for 8-10 years. Bloom is similar in appearance to that of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), which also grows at Fairview. The name Yellowwood comes from the deep yellow color of the heartwood. No serious disease or insect problems. Great choice for residential lawns.
