Description: The Red Horse Chestnut, is the result of a cross between Aesculus hippocastanum and Aesculus pavia that was discovered in Europe in 1812. The small, rounded, deciduous tree is most distinguished by the attractive and very showy pink-red flowers in May. Easily to grow, Red Horse Chestnut prefers well-drained but moist, fertile soils. Foliage tends to scorch in dry conditions. The nuts of this tree are poisonous to eat!
