Description: Hinoki Cypress is an evergreen conifer with a pyramidal shape and spreading branches that droop at the ends. The peeling, rusty-brown bark on mature trees has a very interesting look. Wild-type specimens of this species are not common in the landscape, but a number of dwarf and compact cultivars are used as use as small accent plants, hedges, screens, and in rock gardens. Hinoki Cypress has some susceptibility to juniper blight, root rot, and some insect pests.
