Visitor Rules and Safety

Fairview Cemetery and Arboretum is open from sunrise to sunset, every day of the year. When visiting, we ask that all guests behave in a respectful manner. Although the CDC and Governor Murphy have not mandated any current COVID restrictions on outside spaces, we will be guided by them and ask that you continue to respect personal space and follow any new health and safety guidelines that are announced. To minimize disturbance, for the safety of all visitors to our grounds, and to maintain appearance of our plants and structures, we ask that all Fairview visitors please observe the following guidelines:

  • Walking the grounds is welcomed.
  • Appropriate attire and shirts are required at all times.
  • Bikes, scooters, skateboards, and roller blades are prohibited, as are all recreational activities such as playing ball, sledding, and flying kites.
  • No dogs or pets allowed on the premises.
  • Always keep your distance, be respectful, and do not disturb visitors to graves or any interment or memorial services in progress.
  • Do not pick, cut, or remove flowers, plant material, or wildlife of any kind from the grounds; no hunting, feeding, or disturbing wildlife.
  • Do not climb trees, headstones, statues, or other structures.
  • Gravestone rubbings are prohibited.
  • No commercial photography, filming, etc.; casual photography is allowed.
  • Picnics and barbecues are prohibited.
  • No drones, audible music, or disruptive activities.
  • No littering; please remove any trash that you bring in.
  • No parking on the grass; parking along the roads is permitted, provided it does not prevent other vehicles from passing.
  • Do not enter any water areas; this includes fishing, swimming, and sailing toy boats.
  • No soliciting or passing out information to other visitors.

Please note that the restroom is located at the corner of the maintenance building (at the end of the parking lot near the Broad Street entrance). There are no drinking fountains, and the water on site is unpotable; do not drink.
